C H A R L E S D E R E N N E
Charles Derenne was born in 1982 in Paris. He studied music at the Bordeaux Conservatory as well as fine arts. He is a born composer and a prolific one.
A statement of constant mental and geographic exploration inspires his musical and artistic creations. He perpetually hunts single hints & traces of personal and collective experience, cross- studying poetry, music, architecture, literature, botanics... he sifts through, captures and stores those curated fragments, collected during his daily journeys, as future archives (and sources) of a reconstructed world.
Fascinated by a sublime and romanticism, he dissects those pieces of history to reveal and reanimate them. Through his melodies, texts, performances and installations, he rebuilds a dream striking new reality.
His compositions experiment subtle and peculiar alliances - violins in tune with electronic rhythms, a luxuriant decorum as a set for a contained and mastered performance... Their raw sensitivity pierces through the sincerity and violence of a real, borrowed or fanciful story. Embodying an inherent duality, Charles Derenne’s works act like recollections of an endless odyssey, as exhilarating as tragic.
